I am so glad to have had the opportunity to be a part of this afternoon’s keynote discussion on the topic of adoptees as immigrants with Dr. Daniel Drennan ElAwar and Anissa Druesedow moderated by Dr. Chaitra Wirta-Leiker at the 10th Biennial Adoption Initiative Conference. Such important and thought provoking conversations happening this weekend!
This is a little sillier than the content I usually post, but I wanted to show this side of myself as well as how fun it is when Asian girls have characters that are totally relatable to them.
Happy to have been interviewed for an upcoming episode of the @dearasiangirl podcast on the topic of growing up away from your culture, an experience that is salient to many transracial and transnational adoptees. I talk about my racial reckoning in undergrad, the research and identity work I did in grad school, and how my current job in adoption fits into my future plans. I am always honored to be able to share my story and to hear when it resonated with you all.
In today’s adventures of “what other words can I use besides ‘adopt?,’” I present this… but what makes this case even worse is the Museum of Chinese in America’s extra step of calling the objects on their website adoptees.
