Some phenomenal photos by @nnowack of some phenomenal people at the @wearekaan conference in Denver last month. My life is so much better because of this community. My connections in the KAAN community have pushed me into leadership positions (photo 2: advisory council), assisted me in my academic and professional pursuits, listened to my personal processes on my adoptee journey, and provided me with possibility models while guiding me on life phases I have yet to encounter. It was so wonderful to be in person once again this year. I am especially heartened by the growing presence of Chinese adoptees at the KAAN Conference (photo 3). My communities are colliding, and I love it!
I spent this past weekend at @camp_china in Black Mountain, North Carolina with about 200 camp attendees, including adoptees, adoptive parents, and siblings to adoptees.
Another KAAN Conference is in the books! From reuniting with old friends and mentors to getting to know new trailblazers and activists, it has been such a joy building community and building self with everyone here. Can’t wait to see everyone next year!
I am so excited to finally share with you this paper on the adoptee consciousness model, patterned after Gloria Anzaldúa’s process of conocimiento. Download the full paper on my blog, redthreadbroken.Wordpress.com or on @harlows_monkey or @drsusanbranco’s websites.
